About This Spot

Stepping into Sabor Real feels like entering a warmly familiar corner of Taos where time slows just enough to savor both the flavors and the moments. This unpretentious Mexican kitchen carries the kind of bustling, easygoing energy that invites you to settle in, share stories, and discover the depth behind every dish without hurry or distraction. The hum of friendly chatter and the aroma of red chile and garlic mingle with the subtle clink of plates and the soft warmth of natural light filtering through the windows.

More than just a meal, Sabor Real offers a comforting rhythm — from the morning’s first coffee to the vibrant late-day plates that carry both tradition and a hint of playful creativity. The kitchen handles each order with a practiced care, blending familiar classics with unexpected touches: the bright spark of a green sauce on perfectly spiced huevos rancheros, or the rich, layered comfort of enchiladas that feel like a homecoming. The warm hospitality echoes in the attentive, sincere service as you find yourself pulled into conversation or quiet satisfaction alike.

What stands out here is the honest, heartfelt approach to Mexican flavors crafted with local spirit. It's not about flash, but rather moments — whether it’s the gentle heat of a carefully balanced salsa or the satisfying heft of a breakfast burrito that sees you through a casual morning. Even the little joys, like a basket of crisp chips or a well-loved tamale, carry that sense of place and memory. Sabor Real doesn’t just fill a hunger; it offers a slice of Taos warmth where food and people come together naturally.

Service was fantastic. Good food, well prepared and quickly served. Plus they have this red taco sauce...not a thick red sauce like New Mexico is used to, this is a taco sauce, made with red chile and garlic for sure, maybe some vinegar. It is hot and tasty, and you can buy it to go in a cup. I'll be back for more, it's the best taco sauce I've ever had. Replacing Valentina Extra Hot in my house.

Why 3 Five Stars but 4 Stars overall? Coffee. Mine was excellent. Deb had none since she drinks decaf due to health reasons. Everything else was really very good with a presentation and preparation just unique enough to be noticed and more than good enough to be remembered. Deb had a scrambled veggie omelette and a pancake. I had huevos rancheros with green. Both dishes came with hash browns and refried beans. The hash browns were very good - not the least bit greasy but nicely browned and crispy. Eggs were cooked to order and the chili was excellent. Their menu is extensive so I’m looking forward to a return visit.

Flavorful traditional New Mexican options. I had the huevos rancheros with red and green sauce. Both sauces were very good. Good value and reasonable portions. Bakery case with traditional desserts.

Went here for breakfast, got a coffee and sausage breakfast burrito with verde. Huge portion, filled with plenty of sausage and egg and the verde sauce had a nice heat and spice without being too much. Friendly staff and good service.

We stopped here for lunch one day while traveling through Taos. We had the best chicken nachos ever. Great flavor and no greasy residue. Whole beans, grilled chicken and considerable toppings. The staff was outstanding, engaging and professional. I highly recommend stopping here for good eats in a non pretentious environment.

Are you traveling to Taos? Make a stop at Sabor Real. Real authentic mexican food with a nice decor and excellent service. I recommend anything in the menu!

All the food was very delicious tho a little slow on service despite being almost empty. They made up with that by giving a discount and free dessert. The only real complaint is the tres Leche cake is practical dry for something that should be dripping wet.
